How did ‘Beauty and the Beast’s’ season 3 premiere fare in the ratings?

The latest -Back in the spring of 2014, there was a definite reason to worry about the ratings for “Beauty and the Beast.” The show was shelved for several months, the numbers were low, and conventional wisdom was that the series, which stars Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan, was going to have a hard time moving forward. Luckily, The CW then gave us a welcome surprise, and decided to pick the show up for a third season.

In analyzing the numbers for this season, we’re doing so with a very different set of emotions. The show has already been renewed for a fourth season, so there is no imminent dread or fear that we will be saying goodbye to these characters anytime soon. This is just for the sake of tracking overall performance.

For the most part the premiere figures for the series do not surprise us. A 0.3 in the 18-49 demographic is about what the show was getting when it was last on the air, and it does at least deserve some credit for consistently. One positive spin here is that the show was competing against pre-game coverage of the NBA Finals; another positive spin is that it airs days earlier in Canada, and there may have been many who actually watched the premiere early in America using far-from-approved means to do so.

We feel like The CW anticipates numbers in the 0.3-0.4 range from the show, and we will see what happens as it becomes a little more of a consistent summer player now. Given the crammed schedule in the fall / spring, we imagine that it will be this time next year when season 4 begins.
