‘Silicon Valley’ season 2 finale debate: Should Pied Piper hit it big?
We have spent a good bit of time discussing HBO’s “Silicon Valley” through the lens of Richard Hendricks, and how some of his comments about using a Hooli computer may end up causing his company Pied Piper everything. The results of this arbitration with Gavin Belson are coming Sunday night, so we’ll see if there is any hope for the company at all there.
What we want to spend a minute or two discussing here, meanwhile, is the other cliffhanger that should not be forgotten: Jared and his whole condor experiment. While showcasing the majestic bird through the Pied Piper livestream was a pet project for him, it had almost no success until a man accidentally injured himself. Now, watching said man may cause the entire stream to go viral, and in turn be the first real test of the technology that we’ve seen so far.
If arbitration ends terribly, then we presume that it is possible that all of this work on the stream will mean nothing … but in this case, why present it to us? This story about a majestic bird and a hurt man (odd combination) could propel us into the future for the show, and for the company. While we don’t see the company getting any point like Vincent Chase on “Entourage” (let’s hope that never happens), it may be time next season to see them with a little more success if this pans out. There is something intriguing to us about what a little bit of money could do to someone like Dinesh, Gilfoyle, or the condor man Jared himself, who until recently had no proper place to call home.
We’ll be back tomorrow night with a preview of the finale, but you can watch a further preview for it now over at the link here.
