‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 finale: What’s the runtime for ‘Mother’s Mercy’?
There is going to be a whole lot of story for “Game of Thrones” to unpack for its upcoming season 5 finale “Mother’s Mercy,” and it definitely doesn’t feel like the show is going to be able to cram most of it in to the 55-58 minutes that most installments tend to run.
Luckily, the show’s tradition of giving you slightly longer season finales is continuing on Sunday night, even though it’s not going to be some sort of epic 75-minute affair. Instead, “Mother’s Mercy” will run in total for 63 minutes, which is slightly longer than the standard episode, but not the longest episode overall in the series’ history. Hopefully, that will be enough to touch back on the majority of the stories this season.
To us, it feels like we absolutely have to get more from King’s Landing with Cersei, with Arya at the House of Black and White, with everyone in Meereen, with Stannis following the death of Shireen, with Jon Snow at Castle Black as he tries to regroup, with Sansa and Ramsay, and with whatever Brienne and Pod are up to at the moment. That’s a ton of storylines, which is why we are willing to say at present that maybe we are okay if we don’t end up seeing Dorne again. There’s not that much more that needs to be resolved there.
Also, we want to leave a little bit of flexibility in here, just on the off chance for some reason that the producers decide to throw us a curveball, and bring us something that we do not see coming. After all, there are several important characters out there who have not even been referenced so far this season.
