‘The Big Bang Theory’ cast, Chuck Lorre establish scholarship fund at UCLA

The Big Bang TheoryWe know how easy it is to be cynical with how much money the cast and producers of “The Big Bang Theory” has made over the course of the show’s run, but we are personally rather elated to be finding out that they are now coming up with some great ways to give back and help some people who are actually looking to be some of the next great scientists of the world.

It was announced this weekend that Chuck Lorre Family Foundation and the show (including many cast and crew members) have created The Big Bang Theory Scholarship Endowment, a way to give back to students at UCLA studying Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. In a statement per Deadline, Lorre had the following to say about the decision to start this up now:

“When we first discussed it, we realized that when Big Bang started, this freshman class were 10-year-old … Some of them grew up watching the show, and maybe the show had influence on some of them choosing to pursue science as a lifetime goal. Wouldn’t it be great if we can help.”

Lorre also said that the reason to start this program at UCLA rather than Caltech, which is where the characters on the show are employed, is simply a matter of finding the place where they can ultimately do the most work.

There is very little else here to say other than that this is really an awesome thing for Lorre and company to do to help young science students, especially at a time when this is often not talked about as one of the flashiest careers to have.
