Mariah Carey (not-so-shockingly) trashes ‘American Idol,’ won’t return for season 15

The fact that Mariah Carey hated her time on “American Idol” really cannot be thought of as a surprise to anyone. This is a woman who was first lured to the show’s twelfth season as a judge thanks to a massive payday, only to learn after the fact that she was going to be working with none other than Nicki Minaj, another opinionated superstar. There were rumors about contestant arguments behind the scenes, and while we cannot speak to any of that, we do know that the entire judging panel was stiff and devoid of chemistry. It made for bad entertainment, and Keith Urban is the only member of that group who is still around today.

Suffice it to say, Mimi has no interest in coming back for another season. As she told an Australian radio station in a new interview (see below), she does not want to be a part of a show that created so many negative memories for her:

“Hell no [I won’t return] … that was the worst experience of my life. I’m not going to get into what it was, but let’s just say I don’t think they had any intentions for us to have a good experience doing that show.”

Carey also insinuates that her and Minaj were purposefully pitted against each other on the show for drama, and that became the focus more so than the contestants.

If we are being honest, really the only previous judges we want to see on the show moving forward are the original ones. Therefore, bring back Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson for at least a show or something. These are the three who helped to make the show a huge hit. By the time Carey joined, it was already on the decline.
