‘Outlander’ season 1, episode 16 (finale) spoilers: Show boss hints at difficulties for Jamie

Finally after an extended period of time spent waiting, we have almost made it to the season 1 finale of “Outlander”! This episode is going to air in full on Starz Saturday night, and there are going to be a myriad of difficult situations that unfold over the course of the hour. One of the most significant ones is going to be of course revolve around Jamie Fraser, who is in full recovery mode following the psychological torment that has come his way at the hands of Black Jack Randall.

How does one recover from this, and does some recover from this? As would would expect, show creator / executive producer D. Moore is not someone who is particularly interested in wanting to spoil anything for those who have not read the books. However, he was at least kind enough to tease up what some of the challenges of this big episode were to TVLine:

“The most important thing, fundamentally, was to tell that part of the story as truthfully as we possibly could … This is tricky material, very harrowing material, but we wanted to play the truth of what really happened between these two… and to find that line where you’re neither being gratuitous, and you’re not shying away at the same time — where you’re showing what needs to be shown, and you’re not afraid of it, but you’re not reveling in it.”

This is what makes this an extraordinary challenge. It’s hard to say that you are looking forward to something that is so viscerally unpleasant, but there is anticipation nonetheless to see if there is any way that Jamie can truly be whole again. This is a dark, difficult way to end the season, and of course we want to look out for a beacon of hope … even if there isn’t one.
