‘Game of Thrones’ season 5, episode 7 reaction: On key Emilia Clarke – Peter Dinklage decision

Dany -

Throughout the entire fifth season of “Game of Thrones,” it has been made clear that Dany and Tyrion were going to be meeting eventually. However, at the same exact time we did not expect it to happen this season! This is a moment that has yet to happen in the book series, so it was a particularly enormous surprise to see it happen already. After all, we just saw a huge moment on the show where Tyrion was introduced after Ser Jorah wrecked havoc in the fighting pits. It was tremendously exciting, and it has us so intrigued as to where the final three episodes of the show could go.

So why did this moment happen now? As executive producer David Benioff had to say in a post-episode interview with Entertainment Weekly, much of the reason for this is to push the story forward so that the pacing remains high for the rest of the series’ run:

“We’re really excited to see these two characters we love so much finally set eyes on each other … Creatively it made sense to us, because we wanted it to happen. They’re two of the best characters of the show. To have them come so close together this season then have them not meet felt incredibly frustrating. Also, we’re on a relatively fast pace. We don’t want to do a 10-year adaptation of the books, we don’t want to do a nine-year adaptation. We’re not going to spend four seasons in Meereen. It’s time for these two to get together. It’s hard to come up with a more eloquent explanation, but this just felt right. [Varys] puts Tyrion’s mission out there [in the season premiere] and the mission ends in Meereen.”

If there was ever a sign that the show was running for only seven seasons, this may be it. Obviously, HBO would probably want to do this show forever, but Benioff probably has to get some rest eventually, right? A show of this magnitude has to be exhausting.
