‘Falling Skies’ season 5 spoilers: New promo raises the stakes (again)

Just in case you were wondering, Tom is “not afraid” of anything that comes his way on the fifth and final season of “Falling Skies,” and that is probably a good thing given that the majority of the stuff likely coming his way in the near future is going to be of the extremely-awful variety. TNT has just unveiled one of the new promos for the upcoming season, and it certainly looks to be all sorts of gnarly.

First things first, the worlds “the final battle” echo throughout. We are getting to the point in the season where there really is not any turning back. Lives have been lost, and humanity is inching closer to extinction. Tom and the 2nd Mass. have made progress, but is it really enough? Has the tide actually turned? With the cliffhanger at the end of season 4, we feel like there are way more questions still than there are answers.

We still do not envy the challenge that the writers have ahead of them of trying to resolve and tie up this massive story over the course of just a single season, and produce an ending that is satisfying. While the realistic conclusion here could be humanity in ruins, we don’t quite think that would be satisfying given the sort of show that we have been presented over the past several years. We feel like we’ve been sold on hope, and some element of happiness would be much appreciated by the time we get to the closing credits.
