Will Jay Leno appear on David Letterman’s final show? The latest
Tonight’s finale of “The Late Show with David Letterman” does have the potential for quite a few big surprises, but there is one surprise that really lords over all right now: Whether or not you could see David Letterman and Jay Leno on the small screen together for the first time in years. These two became rivals in a big way in the late-night landscape the moment that Jay was selected over him to host “The Tonight Show,” and Dave famously ripped Leno when Conan O’Brien left “The Tonight Show” and Jay took it back.
Also, remember here that while it would be fun to see Jay on the last episode of “The Late Show,” Letterman was invited to the last “Tonight Show” and he declined. Rob Burnett is the executive producer of the show, and he told CNN Money in a new interview that he felt it was extremely unlikely that Jay would turn up:
“Um, I don’t think so, I don’t think so … We invited Jay and all I heard was that he was in Chuckles in Boulder, Colorado for three weeks. It must be a long gig. I don’t know. I would’ve loved to have Jay on the show. I think we all would have loved that, one last time…It didn’t come to pass. That’s Jay’s call. No hard feelings.”
The only thing that you have to wonder here is how literal to take this. We couldn’t find a Chuckles in Boulder, but at the same time we think Burnett was probably just being facetious when it comes to Jay’s reason for not attending.
If he does attend, it would be a fun surprise and a sign that he can be classy despite everything that was said against him. We’ll just have to see later tonight.
