‘The Flash’ season 2 debate: Should Killer Frost, Gorilla Grodd, someone else be new Big Bad?
While we are still waiting until later tonight to see the full conclusion to the first season of “The Flash,” why let that stop us right now from speculating over what the future could be?
This article is mostly set to be a debate over one key subject, and that is who could end up becoming the next Big Bad on the series, of course depending on what happens tonight. “Arrow” is a show that tends to set up their villains in some way before the next season airs, so are we going to see the same thing here? For the time being, we at least have a few possible candidates who could bring about some mayhem starting in the fall.
1. Eobard Thawne – Given that he is the Big Bad right now and seemingly Barry’s longtime archenemy, it would not be too big of a shock to see him still be in this position for at least another season. Anything to keep Tom Cavanagh on the show, even if he is technically Harrison Wells.
2. Eddie Thawne – The motivation is starting to be there. He knows his family’s legacy, and also knows that Iris is probably never going to be with him because of her love for Barry, the same person who threw his life into chaos in the first place. He may not be ready yet, but he could be in a year or so.
3. Gorilla Grodd – We’ve already met him, and it seems like the ape is getting more and more advanced every time that we see him. Still, it’s doubtful that the show has the budget to spend more than a couple of episodes a year on a CGI gorilla who can practice telepathy.
4. Killer Frost – We already know that there are hints about this alter ego coming at the end of tonight’s episode, so why not thrust her into this position? The emotional investment is already there, and she could be the show equivalent of a Slade Wilson except with different powers and history.
5. The rogues – It’s a possibility, but unlikely given that Captain Cold and Heat Wave are going over to “Legends of Tomorrow” any may only appear once or twice next season.
6. Someone new – There are so many other possible Flash villains out there, you can introduce someone totally new and have them be a worthy adversary.
Update: Given the events of the finale, it’s probably safe to write out Eddie and Eobard … at least for now. Crazier things have happened.
