‘Call the Midwife’ season 5 (PBS): Premiere date expectations, more for Helen George series

Call the Midwife -

Tonight marked the end of “Call the Midwife” season 4, but as is all things, ends are only temporary. Even series finales leave the door open to speculation and the like.

So when is the show’s fifth season going to be premiering on PBS? Let’s just say that you should be ready to wait for a little while from now. As of right now, there is no word officially on when the show will return, but it has already been renewed by its home network in the BBC. Based on past schedules, we would presume that mid-to-late March 2016 is a good estimated time for it to come on the air. Once again. PBS is going to air “Downton Abbey” first, and this is a way to help fill up the network in some of the later months of the spring.

Is this going to be the final season of the show? If it is, we have not heard anything about it. What we did see in the aftermath of the Jessica Raine departure is mostly that this is a series that is so much bigger than any one cast member. Therefore, there is great potential for almost anyone to turn back up on this show at one point or another if someone else leaves. We just have to brace ourselves for whatever happens. We already worry about Miranda Hart, given how little a part of season 4 she was ultimately.

As for some other stories we want to see, we really just want some forward movement for Trixie and Patsy in particular as the two suffered some terrible events near the end of this season. While Helen George’s character seems to be on the upswing, who knows if that will be permanent?
