‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 finale spoilers: Show boss on creating goodbye for Nina Dobrev’s Elena

Nina Dobrev -At this point, it feels like we have said almost everything that can possibly be said about the end of Nina Dobrev’s character of Elena on “The Vampire Diaries,” given that we’ve had a few weeks of advanced warning on it, and therefore plenty of time to hyper-analyze almost every possible second of what is happening in this final episode. Maybe we’ve all started to analyze it too much, given that the tail end in some ways seems obvious: We are going to have more than likely a montage of goodbyes, a few teary eyes among show fans, and then ultimately a small cliffhanger of some sort that brings us into season 7. It’s possible that the show kills Elena off, but if that happens, we anticipate massive social-media revolts.

So in what is probably our last preview of the big finale, let us focus at least for a minute here on how the farewell montage will be constructed. It is very easy to just throw in one cameo after another and another, but we don’t think that will be what happens here. Based on how Julie Plec explains it to TV Guide, at least the major characters who have been on the show for a while should be able to say farewell:

“There’s a whole sequence, essentially the last two acts of the show, where we found an elegant and graceful and beautiful way to weave the goodbyes for Elena all the way through every character on the show who has loved her through the years. I’m a big sap and I’m obviously biased, but it’s incredibly beautiful and very nostalgic and sweet and sad and a really terrific 12 minutes of television.”

One person we’re very curious about, at least at the moment, is Steven R. McQueen. Will the show bring Jeremy back one last time to say goodbye to Elena? It’s possible, though it was not that long ago when we first said goodbye to him. At least the current regular cast should all get their due.
