‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12, ‘Castle’ season 8 not necessarily the end, per ABC boss
At this point, the easy assumption is to assume that the series finales of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Castle” are each going to be airing at around this time next year. Both have been around for a long time, the ratings are not what they once were, and the cast is going to be more and more expensive to hold on to as time passes.
What may surprise you now, with this in mind is, is learning that ABC head Paul Lee does not really envision either one of these shows ending in the immediate future. As a matter of fact, he wants to see both of them find a way to continue past this upcoming season. Of course, you really should not be surprised about that: It is always a network’s job to sell their brand, and make you believe that they want their product to stay along for as long as humanly possible.
We don’t take his comments as definite proof that either show will last longer than one more year. That is going to be up in some ways the ratings and then also the showrunners and the cast. For example, “Grey’s Anatomy” really needs Ellen Pompeo at this point; she’s one of the few people that simply cannot go and have the show still work. Meanwhile, “Castle” needs both Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic to work properly.
Ultimately, let’s revisit this situation next year, once we see a little more of what the ratings are going to be for each.
