‘Game of Thrones’ season 5, episode 2 reaction: About that Tommen – Margaery scene

High Sparrow -

Sure, we have seen a pretty wide array of awkward scenes at this point on “Game of Thrones,” but at the moment you have to put what happened between Tommen and Margaery somewhere near the top of the list. Their marriage was one thing; seeing the aftermath of their love scene was even worse. It was definitely uncomfortable, and it was even more so for the actors filming the scene given that Dean-Charles Chapman is still a teenager, whereas Natalie Dormer is 33.

How awkward was this particular scene to film? Let’s just say it was not exactly easy, but Dormer did her part in order to make it somewhat more comfortable. Speaking on the subject of these scenes to MTV, Chapman said the following about working with Natalie:

“Natalie is a lovely person, she made it all completely smooth … It’s just really weird as a viewer to watch — even if I watch it, it’s pretty messed up, because Tommen is such a young kid. Margaery is like, this fully grown woman, who is really just using Tommen for the power she can get from him… But it’s good for me.”

The scene was apparently filmed with limited people present, and every precaution was taken to make things a little easier.

While this may have been difficult, Chapman makes it clear that the challenge here at times pales in comparison to working with another scene partner: Ser Pounce. Have you ever tried to get a cat to do anything, especially on film? That is not easy.
