‘Empire’ season 2: Fox series joining ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine,’ ‘Hannibal’ others at ATX Television Festival
At the moment, there is an obvious thirst for information on the second season of “Empire.” How could there not be? Fox and the writers / producers gave an addictive 12-episode season to us earlier this year, which is basically enough to leave everyone wanting more. We’ve heard already talk that season 2 will run longer, but nothing in terms of just when it will premiere other than the fall.
It’s certainly possible that come June 4 and beyond, you could hear a little more at the ever-expanding ATX Television Festival in Austin. Per a report from Variety, “Empire” will have a panel there featuring executive producers Danny Strong and Ilene Chaiken, joined by co-executive producer Wendy Calhoun. Further details have yet to be released, but this festival also includes panels for such shows “Hannibal,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” and even a reunion of “Gilmore Girls.”
“Empire” season 1 ended with Lucious Lyon behind bars, and it feels like tonally, the show could be shifting over to something that is far and away darker than the at-times glamorous world we were presented through much of the first season. Still, we would argue that many of the same familiar themes will remain, whether you are talking about family, music, or what it means to truly be successful and what you are willing to give up to achieve it. Almost everything comes with a price.
By the time it was through on TV for the season “Empire” became the top show in broadcast TV in the coveted 18-49 demographic, and was really not far behind the leader in “The Walking Dead.”
