‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11: See Patrick Dempsey’s first message since departure

While there were a few quotes in various publications from Patrick Dempsey after his departure from “Grey’s Anatomy,” they were either conducted or issued prior to the shocking episode “How to Save a Life.” Until this afternoon, he had remained quiet about his reaction to the episode airing. While many were positive about his performance (and the performance of the cast), that still doesn’t mean that everyone was happy. Many felt slighted over watching the show for so long, only to see such a tragic end to someone’s life. Sure, it is a fictional character, but people have come to love Derek Shepherd over the course of the past decade-plus. They expected him and Meredith to be endgame.

In the post below on Twitter, Dempsey expressed some love to the fans, which is a nice bit of recognition that they have stuck with him for so much time. It is possible that the exact circumstances of his exit remain a mystery, but what we know with some confidence is that this all came together over the course of the past few months.

There have been some cast members to have spoken out about Dempsey’s exit, but to date the one we are the most curious to hear from is Ellen Pompeo. She has worked with Patrick side by side for so many years, and she probably has to be more emotional than anyone over him leaving with still a year to go on his contract.

Dempsey has already moved on to other ventures; he does some work in business, and he is also active in the racing world.
