ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7 spoilers: First details on Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion in ‘Dead from New York’
Are there going to be some crazy things taking place on “Castle” close to the end of the series? Maybe in Monday’s “Sleeper,” or in the big season finale. (We’re feeling more and more like it won’t be a series finale, given that Nathan Fillion has a new contract.)
However, for the penultimate episode airing on May 4 entitled “Dead from New York,” we are feeling more that the show is really going to try to just emphasize the humor more than anything else. How else can you describe a case that is basically all about the death of a fictional Lorne Michaels? We are still waiting for an official ABC synopsis, but this tiny one (via SpoilerTV) sets up the case about as succinctly as you can: “Castle and Beckett investigate the death of the creator of a long-running sketch show.”
Could this be the last “funny” case that Stana Katic takes part in on the show? Theoretically, it’s possible; the finale is meant to be more serious, and she does not have a deal yet for next season. She has also been very quiet on social media since the news about the contract situation first came out. It’s hard to avoid this topic, even if we are talking about an episode that will feature appearances from Jaleel White (“Family Matters”) and singer Carly Rae Jepsen as herself.
Do we still think that Katic will return? We’re reasonably confident, only because this show would be so strange without her. It’s a little different than Chris Meloni leaving “Law & Order: SVU.” That show is about the unit more so than even a lead. Beckett is Castle’s wife, and also his muse.

omg Stana is not the show. I wish her happiness and Castle can continue without her, if they find another actress to replace her as Beckett

I heard that both Andrew and David are leaving. Also Beckett and Castle are preparing new bucket lists and career plans (mountains to scale). There could be no better opportunity for recreating the series than if it had been planned. Beckett is scheduled to face a crossroads late in the season. I wonder if it could be making a decision to accept a promotion of Captain of her own precinct (the 12th maybe) or of being named to the remainder of Bracken’s Senate seat term with support for reelection in subsequent campaigns. There is also the possibility of children in the career plans and/or bucket lists. Any of these could serve to provide further development of The Beckett character and give Stana the art she wants.

Strange is a ‘strange’ choice of words. There is no show without Stana.
Besides Marlowe is gone. His vision has been completed. The show that we know will no longer exist. Stana was the show. She totally embodied Beckett and transported us to six seasons of excellent storytelling and acting (I don’t count season seven, too messy). Whatever your fate, thanks Stana, it has been an enjoyable ride.
Say Good Night, Gracie!
