Ratings: ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ ‘Castle’ season 7 down; ‘The Night Shift’ up
While “Dancing with the Stars” probably did not feel particularly great about their season 20 premiere numbers, they can at least be rather pleased that they kept most of that rating moving into week 2.
For the episode last night that featured the elimination of Redfoo from LMFAO, the ABC dance competition ended up drawing a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This is down just a tenth from the premiere, and we imagine that if this rating holds the rest of the season, the network will probably be rather happy. After all, that is better than they get from any other program that has aired the past couple of weeks on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, or Fridays for ABC. It led into “Castle,” which saw its number drop last night to a 1.4 in the demo. While we do still think that the show will be renewed, its performance in 2015 does lead us to think that a shortened final season is something that could very well happen sooner rather then later. Right now, we’re mostly just hoping that it has more episodes beyond this season.
There were not many dramatic changes Monday night as a whole, except for maybe “The Night Shift” on NBC rising up to a 1.6 following “The Voice.” We do think it will be adjusted down slightly in the final numbers, but this is still better than we have seen from the show lately. Granted, we still don’t think that less than 50% retention of its lead-in is even remotely what the network should be satisfied with.
Just for reference, repeats of “The Originals” and “Jane the Virgin” last night got the same 0.3 rating that a new “Reign” happened to score last Thursday.
