‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: Why is Ray Palmer officiating Diggle’s wedding?

Diggle -We like to solve all of the burning questions here, and while it may sound somewhat random, there were quite a few people out there who seemed to be curious about one thing in particular going into Wednesday night’s new “Arrow” episode entitled “Suicidal Tendencies”: Why in the world is Ray Palmer officiating the wedding of Diggle and Lyla? So far as we know, he has no deep personal connection with the two characters.

As it turns out, there are explanations for almost everything. For one, we know that the show has a variety of other big plans in store for this wedding, and they include Oliver as the Best Man! He couldn’t be in two place at once, and we assume that many other familiar members of Team Arrow have some other roles in the community. So what we have as an “explanation” is a quote from David Ramsey (per Entertainment Weekly) that may not make a whole lot of sense in the context of the show, but does to the larger DC Universe:

“Rick Flag can’t make our wedding. He was going to be officiating, so we’re going to have somebody else doing it.”

We feel like Ramsey is almost poking fun at the notion that the show doesn’t really have the Flag character, and that is mostly because Diggle himself has in some ways filmed that role. Joel Kinnaman is actually going to be playing Flag in the upcoming “Suicide Squad” movie.

In the end, that’s not really an answer at all, but still a pretty good line if you love your “Arrow”-related quotes to be of the extremely meta variety.
