‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: George R.R. Martin hunkering down, will not attend Comic-Con
George R.R. Martin has been very much known over time as a prolific guy, and also a staple of many conventions. for example, he’s a regular at Comic-Con, and often even takes place in various promotional activities there for “Game of Thrones,” not even to mention A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series in which the show is based.
With all of this being said, it appears as though Martin is doing everything that he can now to ensure that his next novel in the series, entitled The Winds of Winter, is released in the near future. Specifically, he is canceling at least one appearance at the World Fantasy Convention, and confirming that he will not be at SDCC this year. As he states on his official LiveJournal, Martin states that he really needs to focus his time at the moment on making sure that he finishes his book; if he does manage to do so before these conventions, he has a chance to change his mind.
One thing that this sort of announcement reminds us of is how much Martin’s life has in ways changed since “Game of Thrones” premiered. There was always pressure on him to write quickly, but after the show broke out and is just about caught up to where he is in his writing, that pressure has increased exponentially. This makes it so much harder for him to really satisfy everyone in terms of how he spends his time. Of course, fame and fortune can be a great thing, but there are consequences that come with it.
Ultimately, we feel like Martin and HBO both would like The Winds of Winter out before “Game of Thrones” season 6. We just hope that he really manages to finish it in the way he wants.
