‘The Walking Dead’ season 5, episode 13: Melissa McBride on Carol’s reality

Carol -

So far in Alexandria, Carol on “The Walking Dead” is doing a good job playing it safe. She is downplaying some of her skills, having cookie drama, and trying to figure out if she can fit in there. However, the reality here for her is that she is not anywhere near as willing to trust as some of the other members of her group. She isn’t playing it cool on the inside.

In her mind, she’s not so worried about walkers and the possibility of them coming into the town at night. Rather, Melissa McBride tells The Hollywood Reporter a little about what her character is really terrified of. Here’s a hint: It lies within the town walls, or at least the walls of most towns:

“It’s other humans, as far as we’re concerned. They’re so unpredictable. ‘You can’t get lucky,’ that’s what Rick says and we’ve said it again and again. We can’t just hope to get lucky. There was Woodbury, Terminus — who are these people? That’s the whole thing with Carol telling this child the story: it’s people. She didn’t come right out and say the monsters are people; there are walkers out there and there’s people out there and they’ll get you so keep quiet and let me do my work. Carol doesn’t want to end up that way, either.”

Melissa was also asked if she could envision a love story brewing for Carol, and while she said that anything’s possible, she also made it clear that her character has some serious “trust issues.” Cannot really blame her there.
