‘Girls’ season 4, episode 8 preview: Hannah’s parents have a surprise for her…

Before we say much else about Sunday night’s new episode of “Girls” itself, let’s start this preview article off with some news that did genuinely surprise us when we first heard about it: Seemingly, there are only ten episodes in the fourth season. What happened to the 12-season order last year? Our answer to that is mostly that it was probably a little too much work for a smaller staff to put together. We’d rather have ten pretty-strong episodes than twelve mediocre episodes, which is mostly our description of what we had last year. (So far, we’d rank this season above season 3, but slightly below the first and second years.)

Bad news awaits Lena Dunham’s character on Sunday night’s installment, and judging from the first promo HERE, it seems to very much revolve around something about to befall her father. Is it a divorce? Is it a health crisis? To us, these are clearly the two options for this sort of situation. We’re going down door #1 here, since he has not seemed like a particularly happy man for some time. This could be a reasonable explanation why.

As for the rest of the story, apparently Marnie and Desi are once again going to ponder their musical future, which has so far been a little more of a cacophony. (Band humor!) How long is she going to be around this guy! As frustrating as this is, we do find it slightly more entertaining than Shoshanna on the job hunt. Maybe we’re still suffering from bad memories of doing something similar in the past, and we don’t want to deal with this ourselves.
