‘How to Get Away with Murder’ season 2 spoilers: Show boss on Lila’s killer, what lies ahead
Did “How to Get Away with Murder” showrunner Peter Nowalk know at the start of the series how the ending was going to unfold? Not entirely. This is a story that unfolded piece by piece, and in the end, having Frank end up being the killer of Lila Stangard seemed to just be the right fit. The way that it happened was also rather brilliant. Frank clearly “owed” Annalise’s husband in some way, and this could be one of the many interesting stories the show could touch on when season 2 inevitably premieres next fall.
Another issue that will be touched on? If Annalise knows for sure that Frank was the killer, and if anyone in the Keating Five will ever figure it out. This is something that Nowalk touched on much further in an Entertainment Weekly interview:
“When we end this episode, Annalise truly believes they’ll never know for real, and she started the season saying that: “You just don’t know people, and you’ll never know.” There can be all the evidence in the world that says one thing, but unless you see it with your own eyes, I don’t think you can believe it. There’s a way that they can find out the truth—in fact, someone’s still living that knows the truth. That will be the fun mystery for next season is if they’re going to figure that out and how that then affects them.”
Given that the earliest the new season will start potentially is September, the writers are going to have a long time trying to figure out what will lie ahead. Solving Rebecca’s murder is clearly another cliffhanger, and right now, the only person we feel confident didn’t do it is Wes.
