‘Broadchurch’ season 3: On renewal hopes, expectations for David Tennant drama
Is there a future still in the works for “Broadchurch“? Certainly we know that there are many fans out there who would like to see it happening. While the American version “Gracepoint” proved to be somewhat of a flop, the David Tennant drama in Great Britain remains a critical and commercial hit.
One thing we feel fairly confident about at the moment is that the demand is clearly there. the ratings have been strong on ITV this year, especially in comparison to many of the network’s other programs airing in a similar time frame. Their big draws are largely Simon Cowell competitions and “Downton Abbey,” and this series is still relatively young.
With this in mind, the question becomes more about if or when ITV will renew the show. While there were rumors about another season many weeks ago, they were never confirmed. We assume that it will happen, but even if it does, don’t assume that another batch of episodes is coming anytime soon. It was almost two years between seasons this time, and Tennant has another major project coming in Marvel’s “AKA Jessica Jones” for Netflix.
Also, UK series are very different than American shows in that they rely less on a writer’s room and more on individuals. Chris Chibnall is the man responsible for penning the series, and when you think about how exhausting it must be to have this big of a role on a show, you probably do need to recharge from time to time.
We’ll have some further news as it starts to come out. Update: Wouldn’t you know it? After the finale, the network confirmed that a season 3 is coming!
