‘The Walking Dead’ season 5, episode 11 reaction: Andrew Lincoln on Rick’s arrival in Alexandria
There have been a variety of game-changers over the course of “The Walking Dead,” but one of the big ones came at the end of Sunday night, when it was finally decided that Rick and company should at least trust Aaron enough to enter the Alexandria Safe Zone? We’re entering yet another new world, and on the surface, this one actually seems to be different than Terminus. Things appear normal, there are children, and the characters may be able to let their guard down … at least a little. We have a hard time thinking that they will ever be able to do this completely.
How is Rick preparing to be a part of this world? This is something that Andrew Lincoln comments on himself in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where he explains how there are many different reasons why Rick should at least consider embracing this world after spending so much time on the road:
“It’s so eloquent that nothing needs to be said when you hear sound of children playing. That noise is something that none of them have heard for two years and a sound Rick never thought he’d hear again. Even when Rick is coming toward the gate, everybody is on tenterhooks because they think he’s going to back out. Then he gets a nudge from Michonne and it’s very simple and touching. It’s a change in the story, what happens now. We’re moving to a completely new space and it’s leading into a new show. They’ve been so beaten and damaged of late that you’ll see people that are coming back from war and the fallout of that in every which way.”
Lincoln also commented that Rick in particular is probably going to struggle with not being fully in control. Hopefully, over time he will start to be able to handle this a little bit better.
