‘The Mindy Project’ season 3 spoilers: Stephen Colbert to guest star
We wondered whether or not we were going to see Stephen Colbert frequently, if even at all, while we waited for him to start his hosting duties this fall on CBS’ “The Late Show.” Well, we now have an official answer to that, as he is joining “The Mindy Project” for a guest spot!
Series star Mindy Kaling confirmed the news herself in a post on Twitter, and it appears that Colbert will be playing potentially the priest who helps Danny and Mindy be married. He has expressed an interest in this before the two welcome a child, so why not have Colbert be the one who conducts the ceremony? It’s a fun opportunity to see him in a different character, and with far more facial hair than we’ve ever seen him with before.
This is not the first time that Kaling and Colbert have been associated with the same show, as Stephen had a brief guest spot on a previous episode of “The Office.” He of course remains tight with Steve Carell, as the two worked together on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” before the two moved on to do different things with their careers.
If nothing else, hopefully this will help “The Mindy Project” get a little bit more attention before this season ends. Despite a number of great guest stars and a show much improved since the pilot (it is somewhat reminiscent of “Parks and Recreation” that way), the ratings just have not shown the same level of growth.
New episodes of “The Mindy Project” air Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. Eastern on Fox.
