‘Survivor: Worlds Apart’ castaway spotlight: Can Will Sims II find fame again?
There’s no way we can talk about Will Sims II on “Survivor” without mentioning why he has some level of fame going into this show. He previously starred in a viral video that was featured on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” entitled “Pumpcast News.” We would’ve embedded it here, but for some reason embedding was disabled … but you can find it very easily on YouTube. Strangely, there was all sorts of controversy about the legitimacy of it, which featured him prominently singing karaoke at a gas station; we don’t know a lot about the sort of stuff, but he and his other half denied any allegations about it being staged in a “Today Show” interview.
So clearly, we already have the sense that Will is a funny guy, and a personality that we’d love to watch almost all season. However, that does not exactly mean that he is someone who will actually make it very far in the game.
Name – Will Sims II
Age – 41
Location – Sherman Oaks, California
Occupation – Bartender (he lists “YouTube sensation” in his bio, which for one video is hilarious)
Tribe – Nagarote a.k.a. No Collar
Strengths – He is going to be fun to be around. He’s sociable, goofy, and works at a job where he is constantly around people. We also don’t think he is going to be any threat whatsoever to other players, which means that if he makes it pretty far, he’s the perfect person for an alliance. We don’t see him wanting to be cutthroat, since he may have a certain “image” of him out there that he wants to maintain.
Weaknesses – Out of the members of the No Collar tribe, he’s clearly in the worst shape. He could be a liability in the challenges, and he could be so busy concentrating on having a good time that he annoys some people around camp, When you have a personality this big, not everyone is going to like you. You’re probably going to bug a few people.
Past “Survivor” comparison – Will compares himself to Earl, and while we’re glad to see that he knows who Earl is, we don’t really see it beyond their race and their gender. He strikes a little more as a Cao Boi, a Fabio, or a funnier Gabriel from “Survivor: Marquesas.” He’s going to have a purpose to be out there, but we don’t quite get it is going to be playing the game by conventional means.
Prediction – We hope Will sticks around for a while, but the only way we see him winning is if this is a terrible final three / two and he is the lesser of many evils. He’s just too nice, and the more realistic scenario for him is that he gets booted pretty early from his tribe.
