‘Survivor: Worlds Apart’ castaway spotlight: Will Nina Poersch tell her story, and win?
There is no doubt that Nina Poersch will be an interesting character to watch on “Survivor: Worlds Apart.” She is joining Christy Smith as the only deaf contestants to ever appear on the show, though she does have cochlear implants, which make it possible to hear so long as there aren’t people talking over each other. Hopefully, she will be an inspirational story to some out there, but at the same time, we also hope that we see plenty of her playing the game. We want that to define her more than anything else.
We feel like Nina seems to be nice enough, but based on the information that we have on her and her tribe, this may not be an easy road for her if she wants to make it far into the game and win.
Name – Nina Poersch
Age – 51
Location – Palmdale, California
Occupation – Hearing advocate
Tribe – Nagarote a.k.a. No Collar
Strengths – She is not going to come across as threatening. She is the oldest person on her tribe, and she may be able to use her story and her experience to get some tight bonds with others. If she can use these and prove herself to be competent in the challenges, she could have a Tina Wesson sort of run. This is who she compares herself to going into this game. Aside from that, she should be able to handle the elements all right.
Weaknesses – Unfortunately, having something that makes you different in “Survivor” is not an asset. It’s a liability. She could be viewed as a threat since she has a more inspirational story, and in addition to that, she is the oldest member of the tribe, and we’re not sure how courteous her other tribe members are going to be to helping her. Many of them are still in their twenties! Even if she had no story at all to tell, she’d have a hard time just because she stands out from the group and there are only six people on her tribe.
Past “Survivor” comparison – We won’t fight her too much on Tina and Christy is too obvious. We would say that Holly Hoffman or Laura Morett could be good comparisons, given that she wants to be a good person, but also understands that this is a game and lying sometimes is necessarily.
Prediction – There are few places to hide on a tribe of six, so we think it’s going to be very hard for Nina to go far into this game. We’d typically say that she would go far if she makes the merge, we worry that she is a jury threat just because she will have a great argument. Therefore, we really don’t see her going particularly far into the game, and could be one of the first castaways out this season.
