‘Call the Midwife’ season 4, episode 5: Helen George on Trixie, Tom’s struggle
Early on this season on “Call the Midwife,” it felt like we were building towards a pretty spectacular wedding for Tom and Trixie. Unfortunately, since that time we’ve taken more than just a simple left turn: We’ve actually seen things go very much awry. She decided that she is not going to be able to live up the expectations of his religion, and that he would be better off either with someone else or alone. Will this stay in such a sad way? This is going to be one of the major tests moving forward this season.
Ultimately, this is something that series star Helen George comments on further in a new interview with TV Times, when she explains precisely what is going through her character’s head:
“They’ve realised they maybe want different things out of life and they are both hurt. She loves him and he is good for her because he is solid but she doesn’t think she is good enough for him.”
Since this character has for the most part really put a massive amount of effort into being this fun, bubbly personality, this is really the sort of person that we hope we continue seeing moving forward. We don’t want to see her dwell in sadness or think that she is inferior to him. Tom clearly loves her and seems to be a nice man, so we’re going to continue holding out hope for them for at least a little while longer.
