‘Orange Is the New Black’ star Laverne Cox scores role in CBS drama pilot
Laverne Cox has become much more of a household name thanks to “Orange is the New Black,” and she could be looking to take her talents to another venue: The courtroom. Somewhat ironic, given that we’ve seen her in prison the past two seasons.
Sources confirm that Cox is joining “Doubt,” the upcoming drama pilot for CBS. Specifically, her role will be Cameron Wirth, an intelligent, ambitious, transgender attorney who fights extremely hard for her clients. After experiencing so many hard times herself in her life, she is probably going to be the sort of person to fight even harder for her candidates.
Of course, anytime that you do hear some news in this vein, you do have to wonder what this means for the future for Cox on the Netflix series. It is only inevitable. Why she will surely be a part of the third season premiering later this year, the jury is still out on her beyond this. One thing that you do have to remember here is that given the setting of this show, it is a little harder to keep the same cast of people together. Sometimes, characters leave jail, or get transferred to another facility or another part of the same facility. This makes it difficult to keep the entire cast together.
Even if the Netflix show continues and “Doubt” is ordered by CBS, it is still very well possible that she will continue to have a role on both. She doesn’t have to be in every episode of “Orange is the New Black” to be effective, and it’s possible that she could find a way to make it work in terms of scheduling.
