‘The Daily Show’; How Jon Stewart announced his exit
Tonight, it was rather strange watching “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” going through some jokes and a David Axelrod interview that was rather fascinating. Why? We knew what was coming around the bend, as the host was going to announce his exit at the tail end of the show. He knew it was coming, and yet he kept his cool the entire time!
So when Stewart did finally announce the news, he did so in a way that was both funny and heartfelt. He knew that viewers at home would already know the news, so the best thing that he did first and foremost was thank everyone he worked with over the years. This also included the audience, and he joked that 16 years is far and away the longest that he’s ever held a job.
Stewart was right in commenting that he knew he would have a long time left on the show in order to figure out just how to properly say goodbye, and he was in no need to rush anything. What he did say was that this show was a “franchise,” and he did not want the show to ever have a “restless” host. His contract is up in September, so he could leave at any point really between July and December, depending on what Comedy Central figures out.
We know that there are going to be many people out there in consideration to be the new host, but to us we’d go with probably either Craig Ferguson or Samantha Bee after giving it some thought. Both are hilarious, and can handle the show’s subject matter well.
