‘American Idol XIV’ video: David Oliver Willis returns!
What’s it going to take for “American Idol” to give David Oliver Willis a little bit of love? He’s the sort of guy who really shouldn’t have been cut any season that he was on the show, and yet at the same time, he has. Even so far this season, he has been cut out of the edit almost mercilessly from start to finish.
Well, we come bearing actual footage of David below! This is from his group round performance with “Double Stuff,” a name that really makes us want to go buy some of those red velvet oreos that are out there is stores today. The entire performance to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” is great, and Willis is of course one of the standouts.
We do still admit that we’ve never been a huge fan of this particular part of the competition, mostly because it doesn’t entirely feel like the same show. This is really the only time that contestants can fall victim to getting a really positive or negative edit, and we don’t really like those sort of things impacting people’s chances on the show. Take, for example, how it almost buried Jessica Meuse last season. It has buried other contestants in the past.
With all of this being said, we cannot be fully critical, given that we don’t really have a better mousetrap in our head for what can be done. We’re not big on the Battle Rounds on “The Voice,” either, and we understand making something in the competition that is a different flavor.
