‘Arrow’ season 3, episode 12 video: Show boss on big Malcolm Merlyn story

Arrow -Are you hoping for big things from Wednesday night’s new “Arrow” episode like we are? Let’s just say that “Uprising,” at least to us, has the potential be one of the most epic stories that the show has crafted in a while. We’ve worn our badge of love for John Barrowman for quite some time, and he brings so much charisma and intrigue to this part. We’ve made the comparison before, but it is worth repeating that he reminds us in many ways of Benjamin Linus from “Lost.” You know that you really should not believe a single thing that he says, and yet at the same time, you can’t help but want to trust him.

In the video below, executive producer Marc Guggenheim makes it pretty clear just what it is about this particular story that is intriguing to him; we’ve seen bits and pieces of Malcolm’s past, but never by actually going back to his early days. This is the longest flashback the show has done, since we’ll see him back when Tommy was a young child.

In the end, there is a reason that we are getting this story right now, and we imagine that it will tie Merlyn both into the story of Danny Brickwell in the present, and also potentially Ra’s al Ghul even more so than he is already. After all, the guy’s already on the run from him!

While we cannot say we’ll see Oliver Queen back in Starling City this week, at least “Uprising” feels like it may be a classic episode.
