‘Supernatural’ season 10, episode 12 review: Young Dean and Lesley Nicol

Supernatural -On tonight’s new episode of “Supernatural,” we had a chance to see Dean Winchester turn back time, even if it was not exactly his own choice to do so.

During “About a Boy,” we had a Hansel and Gretel inspired story where we saw Jensen Ackles’ character be transferred into a teenage form, where he was going through puberty and hilariously liking Taylor Swift. Who knew that the show would want to pay the licensing fee for “Shake It Off” at the very end? One of the bigger surprises that we’ve seen as a whole.

For those of you wanting some significant details in regards to the Mark of Cain or some of the other major storylines on the show at the moment, maybe you view this as a disappointment. We understand that to an extent, just as we do if you feel like this was a letdown after the awesome return of Felicia Day last time.

Still, there was quite a bit to like here. Young Dean was surprisingly strong, and the actor did a fine job of carrying over some of adult Dean’s mannerisms and humor. Nobody else can be Jensen, but we approve of what he brought to the table.

Also, Lesley Nicol was awesome beyond compare as the witch at the center of the Hansel and Gretel part of the story. Who knew that she could play so many different dimensions of cooks? It was just nice to see her in a completely different sort of role. Grade: B-.
