‘Chicago Fire’ season 3, episode 13 preview: The path to stop an arsonist

Chicago Fire -Tuesday night marks the beginning of the big “Chicago Fire” / “Chicago PD” crossover, and it appears already like you are going to have quite a bit to look forward to. Not only that, but there may be a little bit of education thrown in here, as well, in terms of how to stop a pretty deadly arsonist.

This is not a process that we are going to see the entire team be able to effectively take care of right away. As a matter of fact, we have some confirmation that it is going to take a little bit of time in order to completely play out. Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Matt Olmstead lays out the groundwork as to how difficult this investigation is going to be, both when it comes to proving the arson, and then making sure that the suspect is arrested in addition to that:

“This was a murder. This wasn’t just an accidental fire that was set. It becomes about narrowing down who set it. Arson is difficult to prove, so it’s not a slam dunk thing of getting fingerprints and a confession. There’s some finesse involved and patience and risk in trying to get the suspect in the act or putting him in a place of discomfort where he might act out. It’s a roll of the dice. On Fire, [it’s about] the awareness this might happen and the identification of the suspect, and then the hand-off to P.D.: How are they going to actually arrest this guy when he’s proven to be fairly wily?”

Most suggestions out there lean towards Robert Knepper playing the arsonist / killer, and we do know that he gravitates towards meaty roles. With that being said, it would be more of a surprise if he ended up being connected in a different way then what seems obvious.
