‘Galavant’ season 2 poll: Should ABC hand out early renewal?

Galavant -We are now a pair of days removed from the “Galavant” finale, and we are still admittedly feeling the burn of it being over already. What are we going to watch for fun over the next several weeks? Football, Oscars, and Grammys are full of self-congratulations, and not in the fun, tongue-in-cheek way. This show was often incredibly silly, but it had heart, great performances, and music that actually stuck with you for a while.

Unfortunately, it is possible that ABC may wait until May to make a decision on the show’s future, and that is not something any diehard fan should want. Why? If they wait that long, it means that many may forget about the show, and it makes it easier to cancel. If you want to spark a fan campaign, we feel like it is better to get the word out sooner rather than later.

We already know what the case is for canceling the show, and that is simply a matter of numbers. They weren’t great the final two weeks in particular, even though we do have a number of caveats for it. Four out of the eight episodes appeared against either the Golden Globes or the AFC Championship Game, and by the time the finale rolled around, many fans of the first episode were not completely caught up. We also understand that there are many hypotheticals associated with it, such as the “what if the show didn’t have competition?” one lined out above. Another hypothetical here is what if “Galavant” can build up an audience in the eleven or so months it would be off the air. There are occasions of viewers finding a show late and falling for it. Giving this series a summer run in repeats could help with exposure.

Ultimately, the main reasons that ABC should renew the series are as follows:

1. What else are you going to air for four weeks next January, and is it really going to perform better than this series?

2. Given the short order this season, it is less of a commitment to catch people up. Support the show, get it on somewhere like Netflix, and see if you can improve your standing.

3. There is nothing else like it on TV. “Glee” is the only other musical, and it is ending. Also, we feel that “Glee” has lost its way as a satire since the end of the third season.
