‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 5 spoilers: Series boss on relationships, story’s future

It feels like a long time since there has been news on the “Rizzoli & Isles” front, and there is a good reason for that: It has been a long time! New episodes of the show have been MIA since the summer, but come Tuesday, February 17, the series will return to TNT in order to wrap up the fifth season.

So what can you expect? Basically, we’d say a batch of episodes that further show that the bond between Jane and Maura is real, and that they can be there for each other in the best of worst of times … including breakups. As showrunner Jan Nash tells TV Guide, the end of Jack and Maura’s relationship, coupled with Jane’s recovery, gives both characters a chance to be there for each other. It’s a unique situation that way:

“Many of the men who’ve come into their lives … have not felt like they were — I don’t want to use ‘worthy’ — but they are not the kind of men you would want these women to be in a relationship with … In the end, they have each other.”

Nash also teases that season 5 will come to a close with a road trip for the two characters, where (wouldn’t you know?) a case turns up for the two to tackle. Also, there may be a sing-along component to it, just in case you want to be even more excited for what lies ahead.

As you wait for these episodes to air, feel free to relax, knowing that the future of the show is also set in stone already. TNT officially renewed the series for a sixth season last month, which was actually a little later of a renewal than we expected.
