‘The Mentalist’ season 7 spoilers: Where does Abbott’s story go from here?
On Sunday night’s episode of “The Mentalist,” we had the beginnings of a major story for Abbott, as we learned a couple of things about his past. Specifically, what we found out was that due to an incident that occurred at Rio Bravo, it was possible that his wife was not going to be able to get a promotion in her own job.
While we don’t quite know yet just what Abbott did there to merit that sort of tough language, it was harsh enough to make him decide to not move to Washington with her. (Who knew not moving to Washington would become a theme for this show?)
This story is going to move along further in the upcoming January 7 episode of the series, which is the first one to air on Wednesday night. The title here is “Green Light,” and you can see specifically below how he will take center stage:
“The FBI is brought in to consult on a botched DEA raid, but when Abbott’s former boss tries to blackmail Abbott into keeping the agency’s missteps quiet, he is forced to choose between his career and morals.”
It is somewhat interesting that neither Jane nor Lisbon, the cornerstones of this show, are even mentioned in the synopsis. At the same time, though, we have come to learn over the years that Rockmond Dunbar is a heck of an actor (go watch “Sons of Anarchy”), and he will pull off whatever the writers give to him.
What do you want to see on “The Mentalist” moving forward with Abbott? Be sure to share some of your thoughts on this subject now.

I think that Abbot might lose his job and Cho, Jane, and Lisbon will have to take over for him at the FBI. That might be awesome!

I personally don’t want to see anything further about Abbott unless the secrets of his past somehow bring good news for Jane. Like total freedom from the FBI and the charges in regard to Red John totally dropped. With this being the last season so we are told and there only being 13 episodes I have no desire to waste time on the character development of Abbott, Wylie, or Vega unless it directly affects Jane, Lisbon, or Cho. Although at this point I hear they are done filming any more episodes so what the fans want at this point is irrelevant. Just give me more of Jane and Lisbon’s relationship. More of Jane’s antics solving cases, and more of Cho.
