NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Chris Jamison, Matt McAndrew, Craig Wayne Boyd’s last shot

The Voice -

Tonight, “The Voice” debuted the first part of the finale, and dare we say that much of it was a revelation? Most of the original performances were in particular strong, and we actually felt like some of these people could genuinely succeed after the competition. We have not exactly seen that during some other seasons.

Of course, at the bottom of this article, we’re going to have a poll, where you can vote for your favorites on the night. Stay tuned for that.

Chris Jamison

Justin Timberlake, “Cry Me a River” – A tricky song choice. Somehow, he pulled this off. This may be a top five performance of the season. It may not be enough for him to win, but it was INCREDIBLE when he performed it.

Robin Thicke, “Lost Without U” (with Adam Levine) – One of the better songs, but we have to say that this was more about Chris than Adam, who really just let his artist go up there and do his thing.

“Velvet” – Wow, was this song dirty! Still, Chris really fashions himself out to be a pop star like Timberlake, and with that in mind, this should be right up his alley. It doesn’t matter if he wins so much as he stays true to his brand.

Craig Wayne Boyd

Alabama, “In Pictures” – Easily an emotional song, and probably one that he really feels right now being away from home and away from his kid. We see this dominating iTunes.

Randy Houser, “Boots On” (with Blake Shelton) – Blake did a lot to help him; heck, he originally wrote the original song Craig performed! There was just only so much that could be done with this song.

“My Baby’s Got a Smile on Her Face” – A much better song than we first gave him credit for. He’s going to probably use this one for a while in his sets, and it could get on the radio.

Damien

Donny Hathaway, “A Song For You” – TOO MANY SWAYBOTS. Seriously. We don’t know why production forces audience members into doing this obvious stuff. It’s just too distracting for it to be fun!

Elton John, “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” (with Adam Levine) – Very good song, but do Adam and Damien have voices that really work well together? Still not sure.

“Soldier” – Probably the worst winner’s single, mostly because it was the generic ballad. If Damien wins this whole thing, it’ll be the song that will probably be forgotten about.

Matt McAndrew

Wizard of Oz, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” – Who doesn’t like this song? It was actually the last song of the night, but a beautiful, soaring version of the show. The episode was so crazy, and it was a nice calm to close things off.

Maroon 5, “Lost Stars” (with Adam Levine) – Completely made by all the falsetto. Adam’s best duet, but this is also a duet that he should know very well.

“Wasted Love” – We really love this. It is paced beautifully, and while we want to stay away from hyperbole, it may actually be the best coronation song ever for a “Voice” contestant.

Our final take is simple: We never imagined “The Voice” getting its best finale performance show ever this year, but we got it. We feel like Matt will win, but both Chris and Craig really gave him a run for his money tonight.
