Marvel casts Krysten Ritter for ‘Jessica Jones’ Netflix series
For all of those who want to ensure that Marvel continues to build a great empire of programming on TV and the internet, this has to be considered pretty great news.
According to Deadline, the comic giant has cast Krysten Ritter (“Breaking Bad,” “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23”) for the lead role in the upcoming Netflix series “Jessica Jones,” about a former superheroine who becomes a private eye after developing a case of on-the-job PTSD. This, alongside “Daredevil” and the upcoming “Luke Cage,” is a part of a massive plan Marvel (who has not confirmed this casting) has to slowly create content on the service.
While much of the success of this series is going to depend heavily on the strength of the script, Ritter feels like a great choice. She has shown over the years to be great at both comedy and drama, which means that both can be included into this overall project. This also ended up being a great case of serendipity as well; NBC recently canceled the upcoming comedy series “Mission Control” before a single episode of it aired. Thanks to this, Ritter suddenly found herself available to take on this role, which she may not have been able to do otherwise.
There is no firm premiere date for this show just yet, but our guess is that you’ll be waiting for a while. “Daredevil” will be the first Marvel – Netflix show to air, and then some of the others will start rolling out of time. Given that they are all connected in some way, we imagine that the writers are going to have their hands full.
