‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: Jenna Coleman reportedly to return, despite exit rumors
Well, how about this for a nice turnaround when it comes to “Doctor Who“? At this point a couple of months ago, it felt like most had written in Jenna Coleman’s exit from the show at least in pencil. She’d played the Clara Oswald character for a good stretch of time, and reports were that she was ready to move on.
However, these reports were never confirmed by the BBC, and that may be for good reason. After all, indications right now are that we have not seen the end of Clara’s journey right now in the slightest. Per a report from the Mirror, Coleman has opted to stick around for at least the first half of the ninth season.
From our vantage point, this is the best move creatively if it is true. We prefer in-season transitions for Companions, since you get a chance to build a strong architecture for them to come in with. Also, it gives you a good way to send off the other character with a big story arc in the middle of the season. While we’re sure that Steven Moffat and company would have written a worthy departure during the Christmas Special, we don’t like to get too depressed over the holidays. This is one of the reasons we imagine why so many were bummed with the special last year, since we had to say farewell to Matt Smith.
The ninth season of “Doctor Who” should premiere on the BBC next year, and we’ll have a better chance to discuss that after the holiday season.
