‘White Collar’ season 6, episode 3 preview: Matt Bomer’s Neal faces a moral dilemma
The first two episodes of “White Collar” season 6 have been certainly fast-paced and entertaining, but going beyond that, they have also touched on what some of the central themes for the entire series have been so far.
For example, Thursday night’s new episode looked at the relationship between Neal (Matt Bomer) and Peter (Tim DeKay), and the irony that comes with Peter sometimes being a father figure. Meanwhile, we’ve also looked at how much Neal can trust the FBI, and what it could mean to truly be free.
Next week, USA is airing another episode entitled “Uncontrolled Variables,” and one of the principal stories here is going to revolve a little around whether or not you can be a thief undercover, and know the difference between right and wrong. The synopsis below points at a serious gray area, and something that Neal has been forced to deal with often since working with Peter and company in the early days of the show:
“Neal is conflicted over scamming an innocent mark while running a con for the Pink Panthers. Elsewhere, Peter works with a reckless Interpol agent who may put their entire operation in jeopardy.”
Now, the obvious sad news: We’re already a third of the way through the final season. This story really has just started, and in the matter of around a month or so, it will be over. That’s a very hard pill to swallow, but at the same time, we remain reasonably grateful to USA for giving us this element of closure in the first place.

I don’t think the FBI will honor their contract. What will Neal do if he does get his freedom? Will he go back to running cons with Mozzie? Will he go to some island with all his hidden loot and just relax? I don’t know. I want happy endings for all the characters.
