Ezra Miller cast in ‘The Flash’ movie; what this means for ‘Flash,’ ‘Arrow’ shows

The latest -Ready for some comic-book controversy? You’re going to get it right now courtesy of what DC Comics has decided to officially do for their feature films.

Sources confirm that “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” actor Ezra Miller has been booked to play Barry Allen in an upcoming movie version of “The Flash,” which is actually not going to be in theaters until 2018. With that in mind, we have zero clue why this announcement is being made right now. By the time this film happens, the CW series will have already had four seasons in the can.

The reason why Grant Gustin is not playing the character in this incarnation is pretty simple: There’s no time. It takes a good 9-10 months a year being Barry on the small screen, and it takes almost this long typically to star in a feature film. This gives DC a better opportunity to cash in, and while we like Miller, we are going to have a hard time seeing anyone other than Gustin in the part in the near future. We’re kind of loyal to TV that way.

What this really means to us ultimately is something a little different: It’s basically confirmation that DC Comics is okay with having similar characters in the film and TV universe. That does to us mean that we could feasibly see characters like Harley Quinn on “Arrow,” even if there are plans to include her in the upcoming “Suicide Squad” movie that will be coming up in a couple of years.

This is a story that we are immensely fascinated with, so we are probably going to continue to touch on this a little bit moving forward. For now, let us know your thoughts on this casting and DC’s plan below. Also, be sure to sign up to grab some further TV scoop on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo via The CW.)
