‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 spoilers: Producers not looking to just kill off characters

The Walking Dead -For those wondering, it does not appear like AMC is planning to turn “The Walking Dead” into one of those shows that just kills off people willy-nilly for the heck of it, even if there may be a few assorted moments here and there where you start to wonder if that is really the case. You have a large cast here, and you also have a world where there are flesh-eating zombies on the loose. With all of this in mind, it may be easy to think that this is something that the producers are really going for.

However, the real truth of the matter is that the writers do put a ton of time into figuring out whether or not a death of a character is earned, and how they want to weave some of them into the series. Speaking about this issue to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Scott M. Gimple had the following to say:

“We’re trying not to be the ‘character death show.’ It’s a part of the world. In the last couple years, major character deaths on shows has become part and parcel to seemingly every type of TV show, except reality. The Simpsons just had a major death. Family Guy has a major death the year before, plus The Good Wife and Homeland. We don’t want to play it as like a tool in our tool chest or something that’s some part of story rhythm. It’s absolutely a part of our world and it’s part of the things that changes these characters and it’s part of the stakes that make them who they are today.”

Who do we think is the most likely to die right now? Mostly, we are looking at people who either feel like they’ve either earned some level of redemption already (Bob), or someone who hasn’t made a huge impact on the series as a whole (Rosita). We can see someone like Glenn, Maggie, or Tyreese going, but the premiere feels a little early.
