‘Downton Abbey’ season 5, episode 2 preview: What comes next for Daisy?
We’re here to kick off our photo preview for Sunday night’s new episode of “Downton Abbey,” and we start today by talking about a character who does not always spend a whole lot of time in the spotlight: Daisy. (Warning: Spoilers ahead for Americans!)
The last we saw her during the premiere, she was smartly doing the right thing and starting to look towards the future. Times are changing. This is something even Mr. Carson is acknowledging, and she has to prepare for the idea that she may not be a cook in Mrs. Patmore’s kitchen forever … and nor does she want to be. This is why she is working to read and become more educated, even though not everyone downstairs necessarily loves the idea. Basically, she is getting more skills than she really needs in order to adequately do her job.
While Daisy’s future for the time being is still relatively unclear, we know that in this episode, we are going to be able to see Patmore try to do her best to help her in any way that she can … even if that may sometimes be difficult. Remember here that she is not entirely a woman with a whole lot of resources, either, but she does look at Daisy almost as a daughter. She wants her to succeed in the end, and these two qualify in our minds as characters to watch. Plus, we find Daisy to be one of the easiest characters to relate to on the series, and there are few who deserve a win at the end of this like she does.
