Ratings: ‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4 slides slightly; ‘Outlander’ reaches new high
It’s been a very long time since we have been able to write about a pair of Saturday shows in a ratings article, but the presence of both “Hell on Wheels” and “Outlander” at the moment makes that possible. Also, both shows clearly have a lot to be happy about right now.
The only sad news for AMC’s Western series is that this past episode slipped down to a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, tying its season low. It did manage to stay over 2 million viewers, which to us means mostly that the show skewed even older than usual for this past episode. Was the decrease in demo caused by viewers who were upset over Common’s exit from the show? In the end, there is probably not enough of a sample size to really make much of an estimate.
As for some other interesting Tuesday ratings information, the numbers for Starz’s “Outlander” continue to rise as we near the end of the summer season. With a 0.3 rating and over 1.2 million viewers, the show set series highs in both measures for the much-anticipated episode “The Wedding.” More and more, this is looking like the one series that will finally put this network on the map after many years of getting close to establishing a significant base.
“Outlander” has already been renewed for a 13-episode second season, and we certainly expect the same thing to happen for “Hell on Wheels.” So long as the show doesn’t lose any numbers, we feel like there is at least one more season left in it.

Man, if they ever cancel Hell on Wheels, I don’t know what I will do. I am just shocked that this show hasn’t caught on. I like the Walking Dead, but Wheels is just better to me in SO many ways. Anson Mount is captivating in his role as Cullen Bohannon. It’s a great show!

As a long time fan of the Outlander book series, I’m excited that the show is capturing audiences almost everywhere (UKTVNeedsOutlander). Ron D. Moore and his production company, Sony Pictures TV and Starz are bringing appointment TV to Saturdays. The show is amazing from the writing, photography, scenery, costuming, acting and more. It gets better every week!
