‘True Detective’ season 2 spoilers: Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn castings confirmed
HBO has not lifted the veil just yet on every person who will be appearing on “True Detective” season 2, but they did make a pair of castings official in a press release Tuesday: Both Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn are going to be a key part of the show moving forward.
As for who the two parties will play, here are their official loglines.
- Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.
- Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.
The logline for the entire season goes as such: “Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.” There’s not a lot to go on there, and there is no confirmation if the rumors about a high-speed rail being at the center of all of this are true. We know that the setting here will be California, and the series will film in the state starting later this year.
As for a premiere date, we’re thinking somewhere along the lines of the summer of next year. It’s going to be a while given that the show has not even started filming yet, and the challenge for creator Nic Pizzolatto is substantial. He has to figure out how to match the hype and the anticipation that came from the first season.
One other important note here is that Justin Lin of the “Fast and the Furious” franchise will direct the first two episodes. He also recently filmed the pilot for CBS’ new show “Scorpion.”
