‘Top Chef: Boston’ spoilers: First look at season 12!

Top Chef -It’s almost the time of year again for “Top Chef” to roll back on the air, and we couldn’t be more excited. With “Top Chef Masters” giving way this year to “Top Chef Duels” (an inferior season in our mind), we’re ready to get back some of that original flavor of watching really talented chefs from around the country cook in cool, creative competitions.

To us, what has consistently elevated this series to a level that is higher than many of the others in this genre is that it really puts a premium on the quality above anything else. You never get a sense with it that this show is trying to just torment its contestants, or make us question as viewers what in the world it is trying to do. It’s all about quality, and if we get drama, it typically comes about organically.

With that being said, there is one thing that we are worried about here right away: At least one Quickfire Competition where a chef goes home right away. We like these challenges being more of a warm-up act, since it gives a chef a chance to recover from a mistake, and then go on to the elimination challenge. We’re a little bit of a traditionalist in that way.

Some of the celebrity guests for this season include at least one New England Patriots star and also Andy Cohen. Given that the setting is Boston, you can expect plenty of American history to play an enormous role here.

The new season premieres on Wednesday, October 15 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. Stay tuned.
