Will there be a ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ season 12, or is tonight’s finale the end?
Tonight, “So You Think You Can Dance” will wrap up its incredible 11th season on television with a two-hour finale on Fox, and just as it did two years ago, it will be ending things potentially in a very ambiguous manner.
After all, Fox is going into a very different direction at the moment. The network has a new head of reality programming, and also new programming heads overall. Nigel Lythgoe is not working with Kevin Reilly anymore. All of this could easy be summed up as trouble in some ways for the popular series.
Another thing to consider here is that the ratings are going down yet again, and Fox has already made pretty big cuts to the show’s budget. They’ve reduced the live shows to one per week, and trimmed the total number of episodes. This is why we have so many double-eliminations, and it doesn’t even always make sense given that the fall season doesn’t start for a couple more weeks.
Of course, we would personally love to see the show back once again, mostly because there is almost nothing else like it out there. “So You Think You Can Dance” has become an institution of sorts, and it is a destination for some of the most artistic performances on TV. “Dancing with the Stars” may have fun from time to time, but it is nowhere near on the same level as this show when it comes to quality.
We’ll hopefully know one way or another within the next couple of months, but if the show does get canceled, we almost definitely expect a backlash.

To the executive producers, You guys need to let go of the old fashioned cliche, and start looking for something that attracts the younger population more as well, and not just women, men. Maybe if you guys had a show where you chose people based on what they can do, and put them on stage and just let them perform. That way who wins is based entirely on who’s the best. Now I’d watch that hahah.. ABDC got us over the whole synchronized groups thing, now we need more performance. Bet you would get more competition as well.

Well now. I think it should come back. But only because there are obviously so many talented choreographers and dancers out there.
As to folks who complain about a lack of diversity, I wonder what you’re looking for. There were ballet, ballroom, contemporary and even two tap dancers in the final 4. Or were you hoping for racial diversity?
There were two black male dancers.
Maybe you wanted more?
Did you want more black hip-hop dancers? Because there were hip-hop dancers in the top 20.
All that said – this was one of the strongest seasons of the show. It was amazing – as was the choreography.
Only thing I really didn’t get was the Dance Groups. Just seemed like an aside.
