‘Sherlock’ season 4: Benedict Cumberbatch lands wild new gig
How in the world does Benedict Cumberbatch have time to sleep, let alone film an upcoming season of “Sherlock“? We spend probably way too much time wondering such things, but he somehow figures it out.
Luckily, the nature of this particular role may make it a little easier for the actor. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Cumberbatch is set to voice the villain of “The Jungle Book,” tiger Shere Khan, for the upcoming Warner Bros. adaptation of the popular Kipling story. This project is being directed by Andy Serkis, the motion-capture genius best known for the “Lord of the Rings” and the “Planet of the Apes” movies.
This is not the only adaptation of “The Jungle Book” that is currently in the works, either. Disney is also currently developing their own version, with another British TV actor in “Luther’s” Idris Elba getting the chance to voice the villain. Who knew that British TV stars were in such high demand to play evil people?
There’s no reason to expect that this or any other Benedict project is going to get in the way of “Sherlock” season 4 happening, given that the plan is for there to be a Christmas Special in 2015, and then some new episodes coming up at some point in early 2016. The real beauty of doing this show is that there’s no real time frame on it, and you can film one feature-length episode, go off and do a movie, and then come back and do another. Unless you are changing you haircut, it shouldn’t be much of a problem.
